Welcome to the Maui Interpreters Hui website. The Hui's mission is to expand language access to medical, legal, and social services on Maui through the use of trained interpreters.

	•		Hui members periodically offer training to qualified bilingual individuals and to users of interpreting services, including administrators and front-line workers.
	•		The Hui also serves as an advisory committee to the Maui representative on the Governors' Advisory Board to the Office of Language Access (OLA). OLA is charged with implementation of the Hawaii State Language Access Law for all state offices and other state-funded agencies or programs.
	•		We are espically interested in reaching and training people who speak the languages of our local communities and new immigrants: Marshallese; Chuukese; Micronesian languages; Polynesian languages; Ilocano; Tagalog; Visayan; Spanish; Brazilian Portuguese; and others.

The following handouts have been distributed and discussed at Hui meetings and trainings. They are considered important documents for all interpreters and serve as the basis of many organizations’ interpreting policies. If you are currently an interpreter or studying to become a professional interpreter, we strongly encourage you to get to know these documents. They are created by some of the leading interpreting organizations in the United States at this time.

	•		Administrators/representatives of agencies who use or need interpreting services to reach their clients

Note: Our focus is non-commercial and non-religious, but we are happy to have members of church groups or businesses be part of the Hui. We are interested in expanding language access to health, community, legal, educational, and social services.
